Tuesday Tip of the Day: Dry Shampoo

Ladies, ladies, ladies, are you too busy to wash your hair today? Maybe today is your “I’m going to sit at home and look the most publicly unacceptable as possible” day. Whenever we decide to have these amazing “Gross” day’s as we call it, someone wants to hang out. Are you serious right now, boyfriend? I’m in dirty pajamas, and my hair has that “I havn’t showered in two days ” greasy look because well I didnt shower the last two days. Oh and did he mention he’s on his way to pick you up now!?

When you need clean hair in a fix, dry shampoo is your best friend. Here’s a DIY dry shampoo recipe you should have memorized when you’re in a pinch!

What you need:
1 tbsp of cornstarch
4 tbsp of water
1 tbsp of rubbing alcohol
Mix together, pour in spray bottle and tell your boyfriend you were just going for a “natural look” that’s why you have no make up on. Hey at least my hair looks awesome.

Have you over-waxed or over-plucked your brows? Do you look like a chola? Are you tired of being asked bloods or crips? Well don’t you fret! Try putting olive oil or vitamin E oil on your eyebrows at night. You’ll have fuller brows in no time! Another way to stimulate growth is by massaging your eyebrows with a toothbrush!

May Must Haves

Christina’s May Must Haves:

Song

I am so obsessed with this song and video! My friend Lauren showed me it and I immediately downloaded it. To me it sounds like Summer, and since I just finished mid terms that is all I wanna hear! Carly Rae Jepsen is so cute in this video! She is obviously so beautiful and just exudes tons of fun!

Fashion

Maxi dresses biggest competitor… TAIL HEM DRESSES!
They are so adorable, I love seeing girls in these dresses. They are perfect for almost every occasion. This one is obviously very beachy but there are so many different styles. There is also tail hem skirts that are also super cute. I found this light coral tail hem dress online and I think it is so perfect for the summer.

Makeup Product

Revlon Lip Butters!!!
I usually stray away from lip sticks and stick to gloss, but I love these new Lip Butters.
I have never liked the feeling of wearing lipstick, because it makes my lips feel stiff and chalky. But then something amazing happened… Revlon made these lip butters for weirdo lipstick haters like me!
When you put this on it literally feels like really smooth chap stick, and it gives the perfect amount of color. So far my favorite color is called Cupcake. The color is similar to MAC’s “Snob”. They have a bunch of different colors, so go check them out!

Face Product

Coconut Oil

I have really dry skin, especially when the weather is changing, so my skin has been all sorts of crazy lately. It also doesnt help my skin any by hopping product to product trying to find out what works best. So I am just going back to the basics. Coconut oil makes my skin feel soo soo soft and healthy. I just put it on before I go to sleep and sometimes in the morning if I feel like my face needs it and I have baby soft skin. I also put it on other dry areas like my knees and elbows and it works incredibly! Every girl should have this on her beauty shelf. You can get it here!

Cant Stop. Wont Stop.

Grapefruit!!

I love everything grapefruit! Ruby Red Grapefruit juice, regular old grapefruits, grapefruit shower scrubs, and even grapefruit soda! Every single morning I have been eating grapefruits, they are so yummy and there a fat burner!!! It seriously makes my mornings and it is just one more thing reminding me that SUMMER IS COMING!! These are some of my favorite grapefruit recipes

Anna’s May Must Haves:

Music:

Etta James – Steal away

If you don’t love Etta James you should probably get yourself checked out because you might be deaf. Etta James and Billie Holiday are the perfect getting ready music. Listening to different music era’s really alters my fashion choices. You would be surprised what inspires you!

Fashion:

Peter Pan Collar Necklaces!

Maybe its my love for peter pan or my love for anything adorable but I cannot get enough of these babies. These detachable necklaces can make any shirt or dress 100% cuter. Luminia sells tons of affor-dorable collars on her etsy site, you should probably buy one of each.

Product:

Wild Rose 24-Hour Moisturizing & Brightening Cream

After buying this years Sephora Sun Safety Kit, I had the choice to pick three free samples and I happened to choose this wild rose moisturizer. Well out of all 15 or so samples I paid for, this free sample is hands down the one worth paying for! Ever since trying it I havn’t even looked at the other moisturizers in my kit, because I’ve found my new true love. Usually when applying moisturizers I put a quarter size dollop in my hand and apply my first layer, this was completely unnecessary half of what I would usually use completely covered and hydrated my face! Almost every moisturizer I’ve used in the past I would have to put on a second layer before I even started my makeup routine, but alas no more! Not only does this completely hydrate my terribly dry skin but it really does brighten it. I’ve been confidently walking out of the house sans makeup (this is unheard of). Even though I still have plenty of product left in my sample, I already ran out and bought the full bottle size! Plus it smells like roses and every girl with a nose loves the smell of roses.

Hair:

Joico Kpax Flat Iron

I first fell in love with Joico’s Kpax flat iron when it first came out, my last semester of beauty school. Why it took me two years to buy it is beside me. This is the greatest flat iron of ALL TIME! This human hair keratin ( a protein that helps your hair grow) infused vaporfuel that you are flat ironing into your hair will actually help decrease hair breakage by 40%! Organic and animal proteins are too big in molecular size to penetrate the hair strand and sit on the cuticle as where keratin will go in and fill the holes in your hair strand fixing and repairing at the source. The fact that you are now mixing this with heat to open the cuticle allows for maximum deposit into the hair. Now you can help your hair while styling it!

Cant Stop. Wont Stop.

Taking Biotin!

Lets be real, Biotin is basically the beauty vitamin. I’ve been trying to grow my hair out for the last three years with the most pathetic results. Granted, I was doing monthly bleaching, using non stop heat products and rolled my eyes at daily vitamins. Finally I’ve decided to grow up and  go back to my roots (literally), I only flat iron with my kpax iron and am using biotin daily. This combination has caused my hair to grow rapidly, my skin feel much softer and it has started to effect my eyelashes as well! If you hate beautiful long, soft hair or perfect clear, glowing skin I suggest you stay away from biotin. If you love those things just mentioned I suggest you buy now before the mayan calender ends and we no longer have Amazon!

Tuesday Tip of the Day : Quickly Drying your Nails

I am sure we all have just finished painting our nails only to realize you need to go change your jeans, tie your shoes,  or text about how crazy Theresa Guidice is,  AND all of those things can ruin a fresh manicure! Fear no more! we have a tip here that will dry your manicure in about 30 seconds. COLD WATER! There are a couple ways you can do  this.

After letting your nails air dry for about a minute, dip your nails into cold water and keep them in there for at least 30 seconds (the longer you keep them in there the better). The cold water will freeze dry your polish making it harden and look perfectly finished! If you are in a serious rush, you can also get the same effect by running your manicure under cold water in a sink.

Save Vs. Splurge : Primer

Benefit “That Gal” Face Primer vs. Lo’real’s Studio Secret Professional Primer
($29.00)
Pros:
  • Brighten’s skin tone.
  • Goes on smooth.
  • Helps give you a natural glow.
Cons:
  • Doesn’t last throughout the day.
  • The tube will only last you a month tops (Theirs only 0.37 ounces of primer in that tube!)
  • Not recommended for oily skin. It leaves an unpleasant shine.
  • Only use-able for people with fair skin.
($5.00-$10.00 depending on the size)
Pros:
  • Helps pores appear smaller (What’s up dry skinned ladies!).
  • Goes on smoothly.
  • Keeps makeup immovable all day.
  • Accessible at any local drug store, so you don’t have to search for a Macy’s or Sephora near you.
  • Evens out skin color, which means you use less foundation.
  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines.
  • It’s a thicker primer. Which means you typically use less, leaving you with more product at the end of the month. #SAVEDPENNIES
Cons:
  • Not recommended for girls rockin’ mineral powder foundation. It tends to clump up.
  • Not helpful for redness or blotchy skin.
Basically if you can read, you can clearly see the winner this month is:

Tuesday Tip of the Day: Chemical peel

Is your skin so busted you’re actually thinking of getting a chemical peel?

Don’t do it! Instead of risking your skin looking like Samantha’s and feeling like someone just threw acid on your face try this at home remedy instead!

1. Mash up 6-12 non-coated aspirins and combine with freshly squeeze lemon juice.
2. Let the aspirin dissolve until it turns into a paste.
3. Apply the mask to your skin and leave it on for 10 minutes.
4. Remove the face mask by dipping a cotton round in some baking soda and some water.

The aspirin has salicylic acid which helps to remove acne and pimples since it is like a chemical peel. The lemon juice has vitamin C and helps minimize sun damage to your skin. Baking soda works great at the end to neutralize the salicylic acid.
